What Are Lucid Dreams?

Lucid Dreams are a state of consciousness where you become aware that you are dreaming. When you become aware that you are dreaming you can learn to control the dreams you are having. In this blog post I will talk about some of the benefits of lucid dreaming and my experiences with having them!

Let’s start with the potential benefits! Lucid dreaming could help with anxiety, lower the number of nightmares, process grief or other strong emotions that are difficult to deal with while fully awake, and fully open your creativity. All of these are great for quelling anxiety and calming down your nervous system. I believe in this state that you are more open to manifesting because your conscious mind is still sleeping.

How could lucid dreaming help anxiety? During this state of consciousness your conscious mind is asleep allowing your subconscious mind to come forward to help you work through any problems you have from the wake state. While your conscious mind is asleep, your ego is as well. This stops you from the common issue of talking yourself out of your thoughts. I want everyone to know that your ego isn’t inherently BAD. It is trying to protect you. It is your base survival instincts. You need to train your ego to allow things to happen without judgement. Lucid dreaming could be a great way to do this. Your subconscious is where you store all of your beliefs, so in this state it is the best time to examine old beliefs and make new ones!

How do you lucid dream? You can set the intention that you want to become aware of your dreams before you go to sleep. Try to become aware when you are dreaming. Once you become aware you are dreaming, try to control things that are happening in your dream. Please be aware that this could take some time! Don’t be discouraged! Just keep working at it.

My experience with lucid dreaming is that I have been doing it pretty much my whole life. I just didn’t know that it had a name. I have always had extremely lucid dreams and over time I realized I could control them. I used to have night terrors and over time I have learned how to control my dreams to stop them. Something interesting I have noticed this past year (since I took a mediumship class) is that I have had conversations with people who have passed. These conversations have been so real and things were validated by people who the conversations were about. So my experience has been really good with lucid dreaming.

One negative about lucid dreaming would be, if you are doing it every night you may not be getting adequate sleep. You need to go through your sleep cycles to rest your brain. If you are lucid dreaming every night you will definitely interrupt that and become exhausted. So be mindful of how often you try this exercise!

What are your experiences with lucid dreaming? Do you struggle? Do you love it?
