“Conspiracy Theories”

Are you someone who has gone down the rabbit holes of “conspiracy theories”? Great! You are in the right place at the right time! To start this blog post I want to explain why I have “conspiracy theories” in quotes. It really frustrates me that people say “conspiracy theory” like it’s a bad thing. It’s like the theory is made up and people automatically discount it. The definition of conspiracy is: an agreement between two or more people to commit an illegal act, often requiring an “overt act” by at lease one member to advance the plot (by google definition). The definition for theory is: a supposition or a system of ideas intended to explain something, especially one based on general principals independent of the thing to be explained. Let’s put those two together now and we have a theory about how people conspire to commit illegal acts.

Now that we know the definition down, lets take a look at why “conspiracy theories” have been made to be a bad thing. These theories are exposing illegal activities. They are a threat to people who are doing illegal things. We are talking about things that change the way you look at the world. We are sometimes talking about really dark and scary information. People have done illegal (not to mention immoral) things and covered it up to retain control over groups of people.

That is not to say that you should believe all the information you gleam from a “conspiracy theory”. They are theories because we don’t have all of the information. That is why when you know facts of a situation and you are fed a story by the media, you know that story is not true because the facts don’t line up with the story. But we are not given all the facts so we make our own theories based upon what we know to be true. You do your own investigation and you find out more facts, which leads to a theory that you create. So while these theories are interesting, it doesn’t always mean they are correct. This is great though because you are questioning the status quo! You aren’t just believing what you are told because it’s on the news. This is what THEY don’t want…..and THEY are the people who are trying to control the narrative.

I think it is important to learn about the “conspiracy theories” that are out there because it leads you to investigating and questioning the information you have been given. It leads you to an understanding that people lie and you don’t have to believe everything that you are told. You have control of your own mind and your own thoughts.

A negative of some “conspiracy theories” is how some can be damaging. You can’t fall so far into these theories that you disregard real facts. You have to have discernment. An example of this would be that woman who killed her kids because she thought they were “zombies” or whatever she told the police. She was clearly in a cult and had fallen so far into a whole belief system that destroyed her rational thinking mind. Now, personally I’m not 100% sure she actually believed this or she made it up to try to sounds crazy to get out of the death penalty. But my point was that people fall so far down into theories that make them lose themselves, and it can wreak havoc on rational thinking.

I think we are so interested in conspiracies because they shatter our way of thinking. It can feel so uncomfortable at first because they are a challenge to your normal way of thinking. It causes you to see things differently afterwards. It’s like you were walking around with blinders on….and they are suddenly removed. You can see it ALL. It makes you feel gratified. You knew your intuition was telling you something was wrong with the original story and now you see that you weren’t the only one. It makes you yearn for more information. So hopefully this leads you to investigate and find more FACTS and information. I want to keep repeating facts because you don’t want to fully lose touch with reality. My best advice is to keep your mind open. Don’t subscribe to one way of thinking….that is what got you where you were to begin with.

So to end this blog post, I want to say in general “conspiracy theories” can lead to an awakening of critical thinking. They can open your eyes to situations and plots that will shatter your old way of thinking. They can lead you to seeing things for what they really are. But don’t let yourself fall so far down that you disregard real facts. There is a small bit of truth to every theory…..but it may not be entirely clear. Take a step back and leave your ego aside while you investigate them.

So tell me….what was the “conspiracy theory” that first grabbed your attention??
