Is Astrology Real?
This is another one of my favorite topics! Astrology is the study of the movements and positions of celestial bodies interpreted as having an influence on human affairs and the natural world (definition by google). I have been studying astrology for 5 years now and it is so much more complex than most people imagine! It’s not just your sun sign. And there are many different types of astrology as well!
First, there are over 9 different types of astrology according to google. Most popular are western astrology, Vedic astrology, Chinese astrology, Mayan astrology, Celtic astrology, and hellenistic/modern astrology. I am not going to list every category but I just wanted to show that there are many different categories/traditions.
It is said the first system for studying astrology originated in Mesopotamia around 3000 BCE. They would interpret planet movements as omens or major events. Over time this developed as they discovered more planets and studied events. This eventually lead to discovery of personality traits. The 12 zodiac signs that we know now, were created by the Egyptians and eventually the Greeks used math to map them out in the sky. If you study astrology you will find that many of the zodiac signs and planets have Greek stories attached to them.
I study western astrology and use the placidus house system. So when you pull up your natal chart using your birth time and place, you will get a natal chart wheel. This will show where all the planets were at your time of birth. It will also show you what your rising sign is. It is important to have your birth time to get an accurate reading. You can make an astrology chart for literally everything. You can make one for your business, countries, people, etc. This is how they read horoscopes. To get the most accurate horoscope you will want to read for your rising sign because that is the beginning of your chart (and your first house). This is how they actually create horoscopes, as it follows the moon going through your houses.
The best way to use your astrology chart is to read how the energy is flowing in your chart. To do this you will read where the planets are in the sky right now and compare them to your natal chart. So let’s say you have an Aries rising, so we will find where the moon is currently in the sky. That would make Gemini in your 3rd house, so you will have communication highlighted for you right now. Since we have 12 different signs and 10 celestial bodies to track. Each Planet rules a sign and house (Virgo and Gemini share mercury, and Taurus and Libra share Venus) and different transits will show the flow of different energies in your chart.
In my experience I have found astrology to be very real. It has been studied since Mesopotamia…..thats longer than most religions have been around. I follow Astrologer Laurie Rivers because she is truly amazing. She teaches progressive evolutionary astrology and I have taken some of her classes. Definitely give her a follow because her predictions will blow your mind. She has charts for different countries and she gives very accurate predictions! I use astrology as a tool to help me work through different energies. I can see when a transit is going to happen….and where we wont know exactly how that energy is going to be expressed, I feel more prepared for situations that come up.
I fully believe and use astrology! It’s a nice tool to have to work WITH the energies. You can see what transits you have going on and use that to your advantage as you make decisions in your daily life. I will continue to study astrology because it is a useful tool.
